Apple's “AI Doctor” Exposed: Apple Watch Diagnosis, iPhone Camera as a Private Tutor

2025-04-08

The latest revelations, Apple is overhauling its Health App, and is developing an “AI Doctor”.

The plan is codenamed Project Mulberry, and the main idea is as follows: the Health App will continue to collect health data from users' various devices, including iPhones, Apple Watches, and headphones, and then the AI doctor will analyze that information to provide customized recommendations on ways to improve health.

Apple is currently using employee doctor data to train this AI intelligence in hopes of partially replacing actual doctors.

Apple is also actively bringing in outside doctors to produce some of the videos, which will include experts in sleep, nutrition, physical therapy, mental health, and heart disease. These will be used to explain certain physical conditions to users, as well as give advice on improving their lifestyle.

For example, when a health app collects some data that reflects poor heart rate trends, then it may push some videos to users that explain the risks of heart disease.

Apart from this, some other features and details of Health+ were also revealed:

- The new 'food tracking' feature will also be an important part of the service. So far, Apple has tried to avoid dabbling in this area, with the current Health app only being able to record more preliminary data such as carb and caffeine intake.

- Apple is also exploring the use of device cameras for more health features, such as the iPhone's rear camera. The idea is for an AI doctor to study a user's workout and then provide appropriate movements and technical guidance. This feature could be applied to other Apple services like Fitness+.

- Fitness+ and AI doctors are a top priority for Apple's health team, and the company's COO Jeff Williams is heavily involved.

Apple CEO Tim Cook has said on several occasions that Apple's biggest contribution to society today is healthcare. At present, Apple has encountered bottlenecks in the exploration of Apple Watch health sensors: the development of non-invasive glucose monitors and hypertension sensors has hit a wall, and blood oxygen sensors have been caught in a patent problem.Project Mulberry is a new project for Apple to seek further breakthroughs in the field of health quickly.
