iPhone Ultra, this is the year
2025-05-21
In recent years, Apple has started naming more and more of its products with the Ultra suffix.
This includes the M-series chips, the Apple Watch, and the just-announced new CarPlay, all of which already use the 'Ultra' suffix on their top-of-the-line products.
Over the years, there have been many rumors that the top-of-the-line iPhone models would also use the Ultra suffix, thus separating them from the rest of the pack.
But up until last year's iPhone 16 lineup, Apple didn't change the iPhone naming scheme, and the top model was still called the Pro Max.
So will Apple make a change in this year's iPhone 17 lineup?
It's well known that Apple will be replacing the previous Plus model with a new slim model this year, and the odds are that this thin and light model will be named the iPhone 17 Air.
If Apple has plans to rebuild its iPhone lineup, then this year, when the Air models launched, is indeed a good opportunity.
According to the news, the iPhone 17 Pro Max back cover appearance compared to the previous iPhone has a more significant change. Not to mention the improvement in performance and configuration, at least the recognizability is significantly improved.
Taking advantage of the cosmetic overhaul while changing its nomenclature to give this model a higher positioning might help with sales.
If that's the case, then the naming of the four models in the iPhone 17 series is:
■ iPhone 17
■ iPhone 17 Air
■ iPhone 17 Pro
■ iPhone 17 Ultra
Of course, this is just speculation based on how Apple currently names some of its product lines, as well as some of the revelations about the iPhone 17 lineup.
We'll have to wait for the fall event, which is usually held in early to mid-September, to find out exactly what the 17 series will be called.
