Huawei anticipates Apple with a foldable phone with a new format

2026-04-16

Apple hasn't yet unveiled its first foldable smartphone, expected in September, but the market is already moving rapidly. Huawei, in particular, seems intent on occupying this space well ahead of schedule.

The Chinese manufacturer has begun showcasing its new device, the Pura X Max, a model that takes a different approach to traditional foldables. Despite the lack of an official launch, which is expected soon, numerous images revealing its design have already emerged.

A square design that breaks the mold

The Pura X Max stands out for its unusual shape. When closed, the device features an almost square screen, with an aspect ratio reminiscent of a 4:3 format, but oriented vertically.

Once opened, the internal display takes on a larger, rectangular shape, though it doesn't follow the traditional smartphone aspect ratio. According to the manufacturer's specifications, the user experience is closer to that of a compact tablet.

The choice of usage is also interesting: Huawei seems to suggest a predominantly vertical use, even when open, probably to maintain an interaction more similar to that of a smartphone.

On the back, the device integrates a large triple camera module, which contributes to a more massive design. The images also indicate the availability of different color variants.

Expected specifications and competitive challenge

Full specifications will only be confirmed upon official announcement. However, rumors suggest a 5.5-inch external display and a 7.69-inch internal one, powered by the Kirin 9030 chipset.

A possible arrival in Italy seems unlikely, considering the limitations related to Google services on Huawei devices.
