Samsung Home Appliances Cease Production in China
2026-05-07
On May 6, 2026, Samsung Electronics announced that it would cease sales of all home appliance products in the mainland Chinese market, including televisions, monitors, air conditioners, and refrigerators; however, its mobile phone business and after-sales services will remain unaffected.
1. Scope of Discontinuation: Covers all categories of home appliances, including televisions, monitors, air conditioners, refrigerators, and washing machines; only mobile phones and semiconductor businesses will be retained.
2. After-sales Support: Services such as repairs and installation will continue to be provided for purchased products in accordance with China’s “Three Guarantees” regulations, and authorized service centers and online channels will remain operational.
3. Market Context: Samsung’s market share for home appliances in China has been steadily declining. In 2026, its market share in offline channels for color TVs, refrigerators, and washing machines stood at only 3.62%, 0.41%, and 0.38%, respectively, with the home appliance business incurring a loss of approximately 945 million yuan in 2025.
4. Strategic Adjustment: Focus on high-margin businesses such as semiconductors and mobile phones; the Suzhou factory will be converted into an export base and will no longer sell domestically.
Industry Trends: Over the past decade, foreign home appliance brands (such as Toshiba and Philips) have gradually exited the market, while domestic brands have taken the lead by leveraging value for money and smart ecosystems.
That is why the mobile phone industry has always been a major focus for us, and it is what drives us to continue deepening our expertise in this field.
