Curved-screen iPhone, coming soon!

2026-01-06

Time flies, and 2027 is just around the corner—marking the 20th anniversary of the iPhone.

So the 20th-anniversary iPhone is certainly something to look forward to. As early as 2025, rumors surfaced that Apple was preparing to launch a 20th-anniversary edition iPhone in 2027, which would also introduce a range of new features.

Reports at the time indicated Apple was developing a display capable of curving downward around the device, promising an entirely new bezel-less visual experience for the iPhone.

Now, renowned leak blogger Digital Chat Station claims Apple is working on quad-curved displays and under-display front cameras. Additionally, domestic manufacturers have launched similar projects targeting the ultra-premium segment.

Of course, our focus here is primarily on Apple, and this latest news also confirms previous leaks suggesting Apple is developing displays that curve downward around the device.

This quad-curved screen design was actually quite popular on Android flagship phones a few years ago. Adopting this approach not only makes the phone's front appear more refined with narrower bezels but also enhances side swiping and the overall grip feel.

Of course, curved displays also have drawbacks. For consumers, applying screen protectors becomes more troublesome, and they aren't as durable as flat screens. For gamers, curved screens aren't as convenient for operation as flat ones.

While Android flagships embraced quad-curved displays in recent years, Apple's iPhone consistently stuck with flat screens. Now that most Android flagships have shifted to flat designs, Apple plans to introduce quad-curved displays for the iPhone.

It must be said that Apple truly marches to the beat of its own drum.

While this quad-curved display design delivers a visually stunning effect, it demands exceptionally high screen strength. Reports indicate Apple will employ more shatter-resistant and scratch-resistant glass materials for the screen.

Additionally, Apple plans to equip the 20th-anniversary quad-curved iPhone with an OLED panel utilizing COE technology. Eliminating the polarizing film reduces screen thickness, enhances brightness, and lowers power consumption.

If Apple launches a quad-curved iPhone in 2027, will Android phones then shift en masse to curved displays?
